This is my third Run Around Raglan, a simple and lovely pattern by Sarah Fama. Each year, I have knit one for my boy. This year, it was a bit of a race against the clock for his kindergarten pictures. I still can’t believe he is in school.
The yarn was his choice, from our LYS. His favorite color, a brilliant red colorway made from of Superwash Merino by Plymouth Yarns. This is a soft and lovely 10 ply yarn that is a dream to work up. Honestly, I loved this project so much, I really didn’t want to finish it!
About a week before, when only the arms were left, he tried it on, twice, to be sure the sleeves were measured out correctly. I was excited to have it finished two nights before pictures. When it was time for the big reveal, the sleeves were three inches too short! Ah, I ripped back and knit another 4 inches or so, just in case. Luckily, the next fitting was perfect (and, just in time).
It is a beautiful sweater, with only one mistake in the cables. URG, yes, you see it now, don’t you? Oh well. A good friend once said, “Mistakes in knitting are like lumps in gravy, it’s how you know it’s homemade.” I think it is perfect, and I know he is so pleased. I hope he can get a bit of wear this season, before he has another growth spurt.
Now, onto a matching dinosaur hat. I am thinking about the Dino Cap by Kris Hanson. What do you think? Do you have another good dinosaur pattern? Suggestions are welcome!
