Asian Turkey Burgers
9 Jun 2011
This is a family favorite passed to me by my Mom. I makes about 12 burgers that can be frozen for meals later. They are simple, tasty and most important, do not dry out. On my copy of the recipe there is a credit to Eating Well Magazine, Summer 2003.
Asian Turkey Burgers
6 slices whole wheat bread, crust removed, torn into peices
2 1/4 pounds lean ground turkey
24 ounces canned water chestnuts, rinsed and chopped
6 Tbs hoisin sauce
6 scallions, trimmed and sliced
3 Tbs fresh ginger, minced
6 cloves garlic, minced
3/4 tsp salt
4 1/2 tsp sesame oil
Sesame Mayonnaise
6 Tbs lowfat mayonnaise
6 Tbs nonfat plain yogurt
1 1/2 tsp sesame oil
1 1/2 tsp soy sauce
Preheat grill to medium high. Place bread in a food processor and pulse into fine crumbs. Transfer to a large bowl. Add ground turkey, scallions, garlic, ginger, water chestnuts, hoisin, and salt. Mix well (the mixture will be moist). Divide mixture into four equal portions. Form into 1/2 inch thick patties.
Oil grill rack with sesame oil. Brush patties with sesame oil. Grill until browned, and no longer pink in the center (about 5 mins. per side).
Sesame Mayonnaise:
Combine all ingredients in a bowl; whisk until blended (makes about 1/4 cup)
Enjoy! Happy Grilling!

My son’s and husband love burgers! I will have to give this a try. I know there is some ground chicken they put up in the freezer early this year that I could use in place of the turkey. Thanks Sara for another wonderful recipe.

These look delicious! I have a dearth of good turkey recipes, so this will definitely enter the mix!
