First Skate

Weekending found us at “open skate” at our local skating rink for Griff’s first skate! My husband is Canadian and hockey is a way of life. Griff has had “Calgary Flames” jerseys and small hockey sticks since he was born. It was time to see if his Canadian blood lines give him an innate talent for the sport.

We rented skates and got Griff ready to go. He was SO excited to skate like Daddy. Below is my favorite shot. The anticipation of getting on the ice. He was just amazed to watch the others skating around.

We started by walking him around a bit to get use to the blades.

He gladly walked around on his skates. Now it was time to hit the ice!

He was so excited and with Daddy’s help, he held onto the bar and kicked his feet under him to “skate”. I could hear him from the other side of the rink singing his song “I’m skating, I’m skaaatttinngg.”

He was having a blast and they did 4 laps or so. He kept asking for his hockey stick. We had to gently tell him, first things first.

It was darn cute. We thought he would be bored after about 10 mins, but to our surprise, he was out there for about 45.

Then it was time to come off. Daddy was SO proud of his little guy for being so excited about it.

When we left, Griff asked “When are we going to skate again?” That’s a good sign if you ask me.

Happy Thursday!
