The Bar Harbor Hat

Here is a super simple and quick hat knit pattern for your enjoyment. I started this hat in Bar Harbor ME, while on vacation. It is a light weight classic hat that is perfect accessory to any Springtime or Fall outfit. It is available on Ravelry. Feel free to add all your project links in the comments section here. Enjoy!

THE BAR HARBOR HAT

Size: Women’s Med.

Finished Circumference: 19” (pattern is written in multiples of 10)

Yarn: 100 yds, Light Worsted Cotton

Gauge: 5 stitches = 1 inch

Needles: Size US5, 16” circular and US5 Double Point Needles

Notions: Stitch Marker, 2 ft. Ribbon, Darning Needle

Abbreviations:

CO: Cast On

Sts: Stitches

YO: Yarn Over

K2Tog: Knit Two Stitches Together

Directions:

CO 90 sts, cable cast on

Place marker and join sts in round, careful to not twist stitches

Row 1-12- Knit

Row 13 – *K3, YO, K2tog, K8, YO, K2tog* repeat 6 times

Row 14- 43- knit (this length is set for a shorter hat that will just cover the top of your ears. Add rows for more ear coverage.)

Row 44- (start decrease) *K7, K2tog* repeat 10 times (80 sts remain)

Row 45- knit

Row 46- *K6, K2tog* repeat 10 times (70 sts remain)

Row 47- knit

Row 48- *K5, K2tog* repeat 10 times (60 sts remain)

Row 49- knit, transferring stitches to DPN’s

Row 50- *K4, K2tog* repeat 10 times (50 sts remain)

Row 51- knit

Row 52- *K3, K2tog* repeat 10 times (40 sts remain)

Row 53- knit

Row 54- *K2, K2tog* repeat 10 times (30 sts remain)

Row 55- knit

Row 56- *K1, K2 tog* repeat 10 times (20 sts remain)

Row 57- knit

Row 58- *K2tog* repeat 10 times (10 sts remain)

Cut yarn, thread through remain stitches and secure tightly.

Finishing:

Weave in ends. Weave ribbon through YO holes and tie in a bow.
